It’s another day of the stale, same old same old.

I drag myself out of bed for a job I’ve come to despise. (Didn’t I used to love what I do?)

I steel myself for feedback from my boss and spouse (really anyone these days) that usually makes me feel like a failing piece of crap. (Was I always this sensitive?)

I dread the drive home because it means I’ll endure the kids clamoring for my attention, driving me up the wall until I yell at them to be quiet. (This anger isn’t me. I love my family, right?)

I numb out to some TV and maybe a drink before crawling into bed, to sit there stewing until after midnight, knowing I must repeat it all tomorrow. (Shouldn’t there be more for me?)

You isolate, ignoring calls from friends to go out.

You sometimes have unwanted, paralyzing thoughts about you being unable to handle life anymore creep into your head. It’s terrifying that your brain even considers that possibility.

On the outside, life should be good. You’ve got a house, a secure job, a retirement plan, and a great family. Shouldn’t that be enough?

But it’s not enough, and the guilt from not being satisfied with what you have is overwhelming, pushing you to more emotional explosiveness, drinking, and disconnection.
